Replacing their CEO is a necessary condition for the survival of #Tesla though it may not be sufficient. A turnaround from a stale product palette would take years, their reputation is ruined, BYD and others have far lower costs and better battery tech. No wonder the execs who recently left have sold all their shares.
@arstechnica Every time I see Tesla mentioned, I'm reminded of this thing I stumbled over (apparently inspired by someone listening to Tesla's first-quarter earnings call this year):
@arstechnica I’d like to say that the company vision is poor, but it’s actually non-existent. Superchargers are what give Tesla the edge over other manufacturers, and keeping the cars fresh is what keeps people buying.
If Musk can’t understand either of these then he’s going to piss away what little advantage Tesla has left. But then he’s wasted so much time on an ugly, overly expensive and rusty truck, I don’t know why I should be surprised by this.
Car makers on general are not all that enthusiastic about EVs either, and are developing more hybrid electrics. Which always seemed to me the better compromise.
If they'd only make smaller ones...
Individual vehicles of any kind is not a long term solution and EVs illustrate that nicely.
@arstechnica I had recently heard by independent tech savvy investors that Tesla's charging network had high growth potential because of intercompatibility with other EVs. Now, he lays off the entire team and says they will finish in progress stations but have no plans for new ones?
And he wants to double down on self driving taxis, despite several recent wrongful death lawsuits?
So, he is just an angry guy trying to rebel against reality teaching him anything, huh?
@arstechnica So they got rid of everybody working on or for the company's future and presumably they still want us all to pretend to be optimistic about their prospects?
@arstechnica ...almost like the push for green vehicles wasn't about being the frontrunners in a new personal vehicle ecosystem but was instead about getting government grants and forestalling investment in public transportation infrastructure after all.
@arstechnica I'm waiting for Muskrat to announce a nationwide Hyperloop system and nationwide Boring company underground transportation system. Because wall st eats up those lies. Oh and a new fully autonomous flying car.....to match the flying monkeys coming out of his ass.
@arstechnica Muskrat is xittering Tesla now? I see because it worked so great for his social media toy. What next Yaccarino taking over cars too?
He's a giant mess. Governments have got to stop doing business with his companies.
I was going to say this will hurt their stock price, but sadly it likely won't. The only people investing are the 'true believers' and those who think firing employees helps businesses.
